One of the few classical and new music cimbalom players working in the United States, David Shively plays instruments ranging from Hungarian concert cimbalom to Romanian tambal mic.  The New York Times has praised the “gorgeous nuance” of his performances on these rare instruments.  His repertoire includes more than a dozen newly commissioned solo and chamber works in addition to earlier music, whether the standards of the orchestral repertoire or 16th century Hungarian keyboard works.  Other projects occupy experimental and improvised spaces or explore the folk and popular musics of Hungary and Romania.  Performances in New York City and elsewhere for ICE, Mostly Mozart, Mark Morris Dance Group, New World Symphony, Fox/Searchlight Pictures, Nicola Benedetti, Zeena Parkins, Tony Arnold, Ensemble SON, Either/Or, Mierlita, Ansamblul Folcloric Plaiurile Dornelor, and various orchestras and ensembles… EITHER/OR Duo
